Despite the fact that studying abroad is a well-studied
phenomenon, there is very little literature that fully reflects the impact of foreign
education on the employment of graduates from countries with emerging
economies, such as Kazakhstan. In this article, using a mixed method, it turned
out that, in addition to the well-known positive effects of such education on the
general outlook, skills, and personal growth, graduates also face difficulties in
applying their international competencies and in finding employment upon
return to their homeland. In addition, alumni spoke about the limited
opportunities of the local labor market for professionals with international
education, and about the presence of misunderstandings between the top
management, mainly educated in the Soviet era, and young professionals with
foreign education. However, despite all this, graduates see their overseas
education as a profitable endeavor in terms of linguistic and professional skills.
